AUTON'OMY, n. [Gr. self, and law, rule.]
This word is rarely used. It signifies the power or right of self government, whether in a city which elects its own magistrates and makes its own laws, or in an individual who lives according to his own will.
When we state that Brothers has Autonomy we are stating That we as a ministry watch out for each other. Not that members of BOTC / SOTC are not held accountable to their church home, they are. Or a sponsoring church may want to know what we are doing, we will always share in what we are doing. Or, if it is a chapter that has its members in the church. All we are saying is that there are times that a motorcycle ministry will go where not bikers will not. Some of these places may seem unseemly to main stream church members and they may not understand the ministry or what is being accomplished. Unfortunately these that do not understand may put pressure on a pastor or BOTC /SOTC member to change the way the ministry works or to take over the ministry. All that is stated here is that we are allowed to minister in areas that most do not go and do what God has lead us to do. If we are a separate ministry outside the confines of the church, members are still accountable to their home church and BOTC /SOTC; the Pastor cannot be pressured by well meaning but misunderstanding church members.
Once again all BOTC /SOTC members have accountability to their home church, BOTC motorcycle ministry and to their brothers in the ministry. We are all accountable to Jesus and the Father. Together we can reach those the world (Satan) has convinced that they are not wanted or loved by God and there is a better way.
